Our Story
Old Soul. City Life.
My father was born in Lahore. When Punjab was divided, his family crossed the new border into India, carrying what they could. That included their recipes, their way of cooking and their way of feeding people.
So our roots sit on both sides of that line. The food I grew up with belongs to one Punjab, the land of five rivers, before any border was drawn through it.
When I sat down to make our logo, I started with a map of that old, undivided Punjab. I placed it on the head of our VeerGi character, and something unexpected happened: the map became a turban. It was the old-style turban with a turla, the kind every elder wore back in the day. That's where the name Urban Turban came from, and the idea behind it: an old soul living a city life.
At Urban Turban we cook Indian food the Punjabi dhaba way, slow, honest and from scratch, the way it was cooked in those homes long ago. We serve it here in Chicago for anyone who wants to taste where we come from.
Every plate carries a little of Lahore, a little of India, and a lot of home.

We are open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM. We are closed on Tuesday.
All chicken, goat and lamb in our kitchen is certified halal. Half of the menu is vegetarian, and much of it is vegan as cooked.
We serve Lincoln Park, Lake View, North Center, Uptown, Near North Side, Cicero, Lincolnwood, Avondale, Evanston, Oak Park, Logan Square, West Town, the Loop, Skokie, Edgewater, Lincoln Square, Hermosa, Elmwood Park and Albany Park.
Delivery, pickup and dine-in orders are all placed directly with us at tryurbanturban.com, with no app fees. Our own courier brings Punjabi Indian food from our kitchen to your door — enter your address at checkout to see if we deliver to you. Urban Turban is also listed on Uber Eats, DoorDash and Grubhub as an alternative, with a shorter menu.
Our most-ordered dishes are Chole Bhature and Butter Chicken (Murgh Makhani).
Breads start at $3.49, starters at $7.99, most curries and mains are $14.99 to $24.99, and a full thali is $18.99 to $28.99.
Parking is paid street parking on and around Halsted. We keep a portable ramp at the restaurant - let us know you are coming, or ask at the door, and our staff will set it up. Table requests can be made at tryurbanturban.com/reservations.
